Ooty is an English upholstery and fabric company based in Suffolk. Lou, our founder, has been running a small interiors shop for the past five years, and saw a gap in the market for affordable yet high-quality bespoke handmade pieces, particularly headboards, ottomans, and footstools.

Lou spent her childhood in Asia, and the Middle East, and has a passion for colour, textiles, and artisan craftsmanship. While working alongside an interior designer in India, she discovered the beautiful block-printed fabrics from Cottons & Satins, sparking her vision for Ooty.

To bring Ooty to life, Lou collaborated with a highly skilled local upholsterer here in Suffolk, who could create handmade pieces using our selection of beautiful hand-block printed House Fabrics. By working with a local team, we are able to ensure that each piece we create is a true testament to artisan craftsmanship, made with care and attention to detail.

At Ooty, we take pride in celebrating the beauty of bespoke handcrafted design, but at an affordable price.

Our Name

Ooty is a beautiful hill town in the Nilgiri Hills, used as a summer retreat in the Victorian times. Lou has always known about the town having lived in the far east, and read countless M. M. Kaye books growing up.

M. M. Kaye was a British writer, born in India during the British Raj; her most famous book is The Far Pavilions. She passed away in Lavenham, Suffolk, in 2004.

Our Fabrics

Ooty is proud to be collaborating alongside a wonderful fabric house, based in Delhi. We were drawn to their fabulous block print upholstery fabrics, which are handmade by local artisans using vibrant colours and striking patterns. Block printing is a traditional art form in India that involves using wooden blocks to dye and colour fabric.

All of our House Fabrics can be purchased by the meter, or can be transformed into beautiful wallpapers.
